If you have spent any time diving on Difficulty 5 or higher since the Heart of Democracy update dropped, you have likely run into the "Leviathan Blockade" map modifier. And if you have, you already know the pure panic that ensues when the sky turns blue and a massive, heavily armored Illuminate flying warship starts raining absolute hell down on your squad. The Leviathan is a genuine airspace hazard, and if your team goes into a match unprepared, it will send your reinforcement budget straight to zero before you can even complete a primary objective.

After a ton of trial, error, and painful squad wipes, the community has finally figured out what makes this massive ship tick. Here is a complete breakdown of the Leviathan’s health pool, armor values, structural weaknesses, and the absolute best gear to bring to knock it out of the sky.

The Raw Numbers: Health and Armor Stats

To understand why your standard primary weapons do exactly zero damage to this thing, you need to look at its armor ratings. The Leviathan is essentially a flying fortress, built to shrug off casual orbital scrutiny.

  • Main Body Health: 15,000 to 17,500 total HP. It is a massive bullet sponge if you are just blindly shooting at its center mass.

  • Base Armor: Armor Penetration 5 (AP5) across the entire outer hull. This means if you don't bring heavy anti-tank weapons, your shots will just bounce right off.

  • Explosive Resistance: 35% damage reduction across its main frame, meaning general explosive splash damage is heavily mitigated.

  • Component Health: Its individual wings and fins have their own separate health pools, sitting at roughly 6,000 HP each.

Weaknesses and Core Mechanics

Don't bother looking for a traditional "one-shot" weak spot like a massive glowing eye or an exposed engine block. Taking down a Leviathan is entirely about a component destruction mechanic. You have to systematically break its parts to open up vulnerabilities.

  • The Back Fin / Wing: This is your primary target. It is structurally the weakest part of the ship and the fastest component to break. Even better, focus-firing and destroying a wing permanently disables the Leviathan's devastating side cannons, instantly making the battlefield a whole lot safer for your squad.

  • Exposed Innards: Once your team successfully blows off a wing or a segment joint, the outer AP5 armor goes with it, leaving a burning hole pouring out blue smoke. This internal cavity drops down to AP4 armor and has 0% explosive resistance. This is your cue to pump everything you have directly into that glowing gap.

  • Underbelly Vents: If you find yourself directly underneath the beast, look up. There are three glowing circular panels on its underside that take consistent damage. Ripping these panels open bypasses the heavy outer plating, allowing lower-penetration weapons to start harming the ship's vital core.

Best Support Weapons to Bring

Your choice of support weapon will make or break a Leviathan encounter. Leaving the ship up for too long allows it to control the entire map, so you want options that can end the fight fast.

  • GR-8 Recoilless Rifle (S-Tier): This is the absolute gold standard for active, coordinated squads. Boasting AP6 penetration, the Recoilless Rifle punches straight through the Leviathan's base armor and deals massive direct hit damage. It takes about 5 to 6 clean shots to completely sink the warship. If you have a teammate grab your backpack for a team-reload, you can wipe the boss from the sky in under 10 seconds. It is beautiful to watch.

  • E/AT-12 Anti-Tank Emplacement (S-Tier): If you are playing solo or prefer a defensive anchor strategy, this is your fastest option. If you can find a secure spot to drop it, the E/AT-12 tears through the Leviathan's turrets and hull in 6 to 7 well-placed hits. Just keep an eye on your radar, as sitting stationary leaves you incredibly vulnerable to incoming ground patrols while you are looking at the sky.

  • FAF-14 SPEAR (A-Tier): The SPEAR's lock-on capabilities make it highly effective at a distance, generally requiring about 5 missiles to down the ship. However, it sits a tier below the top choices due to an unforgiving ammo economy. It can also be incredibly frustrating when the lock-on decides to target the main hull instead of the specific wing you are trying to break.

  • Exo-49 Emancipator Mech Suit (A-Tier): For Helldivers who like to stay mobile, the Emancipator is an excellent counter. Its dual autocannons can absolutely shred the back fin in seconds. Once that fin pops, you can use the mech's high-damage rounds to fire directly into the exposed, blue-smoking interior while utilizing your mobility to dodge incoming laser barrages.

Top Stratagems and Grenades

Don't rely solely on your support weapons. Your red stratagems and pocket ordnance can do a surprising amount of heavy lifting if you time them right.

  • Orbital Gatling Barrage: This might sound surprising for a low-cooldown red stratagem, but it is unbelievably efficient here. Because the Leviathan has such a massive physical hitbox in the air, a well-timed Gatling Barrage catches almost every single round. It can occasionally one-shot the entire boss if the angles line up perfectly, or at the very least, completely strip away its top armor plating.

  • Eagle Strafing Run: The trick with the Eagle Strafing Run is utilizing its wide, linear fire pattern. If you lead the ship's movement and throw the beacon directly underneath the Leviathan, the incoming Eagle will rip a line along the entire length of its underbelly vents, opening them up for your team.

  • G-123 Thermite Grenade: If you are running an armor set with the Servo-Assisted trait to boost your throw distance, don't sleep on Thermite. Getting close enough to stick 3 to 4 of these directly onto the Leviathan's joints or its exposed internal cavities will trigger intense burn damage that aggressively melts its health pool down to nothing.
